    My horse came out with hives from head to toe….he looked like elephant man, it was really horrible and covered every mm of his body and face. It was caused as I foolishly used a scoop of my friends cool mix which was a different brand to my usual (same feed just different brand) and his body couldn’t cope with the change! One scoop resulted in the hives all over his body within 12 hours. Vet was called and gave a steroid injection and they went away but were back within a few hours. Vet prescribed a 3 week course of steroids to ensure it fully cleared his system (one scoop!) however I went against their recommendation and gave bran mash and epsom salts and after 2 days they went away. It was quite stressful but once his system was flushed out that was the end of it!
