Balking refers to a horse that stops and refuses to move, or may rear, evade the bit, back up, or turn around and refuse to go forward

Horses that have a habit of this are said to be balky, causes are varied and could be due to a need for more training,poor riding, poorly fitting tack, or pain or distress experienced by the horse
