We finished walking on September 19th 2012 after 107 days of following the Welsh Coast and Offas Dyke, there are fantastic riding opportunities and although the Welsh Assembly Government have agreed to make more of the path available for cyclists, they have not given horse riders the same consideration. If you agree please sign our petition
There are parts of the coastal path that are too dangerous to ride on but there are literally hundreds of miles where it is safe and practical
Public Rights of Way Throughout Wales
There are around 21,000 miles of paths known as public rights of way in Wales, and you have a right to use them. There are different categories which determine what they can be used for:-
80% of the routes are footpaths which can only be used by walkers
Only 15% routes are bridleways which can be used by horse riders
This leaves almost 18,000 miles that could be shared for horse riding, imagine the road accidents involving horse riders that could be avoided
We just need to convince the relevant agencies and land owners to remove the stiles and put in bridle gates….not an easy task
We would like to publicly thank the following people and organisations for their support, which helped enable us to walk 1047 miles around the Welsh coastal path and Offas Dyke
We were looking for horse riding opportunities and found plenty, that will be the next project to organise and if you are interested in being involved please do get in touch
